MoD's £4k a day savings consultants

Under the Freedom of Information act Spendmatters.co.uk have obtained figures detailing that the Ministry of Defence is paying eight consultants more than £4,000 each per day to find savings in contract negotiations.

Said to be on a basic day rate of £3,950 and working for between 132 and 396 days each, the total bill is likely to be at least £9M after expenses and a 30% success fee is included.

Spendmatters also learned that the contract was awarded directly to US firm Alix Partners in February, without being advertised competitively.

This is an absolute travesty and waste of public money.

Tens of thousands of public servants are being made unemployed by the Ministry of Defence as the ConDem government continues to play politics with defence.

When War pensions are being cut and service and civilian personel are being thrown of the scrap heap, the Public Accounts Committee should be investigating this stunning waste of public money.
